It is T minus 45 days and counting until I hit the big 40 and I cannot say that I am all that eager to embrace this particular milestone. Sure, I could pepper you with all the typical clichés of how life begins at forty, but that would require more thought then I am willing to exert. I can distinctly recall thinking that when my parents turned forty they were seriously old. I actually started offering to do more chores around the house since I was certain my mother could drop dead at any moment. I even went so far as to ask them to provide me with a copy of their last will and testament as a junior in high school, in case I found myself as a orphan given what I perceived as a foreseeable fate.
Obviously, my misguided perception of age has changed, but I am still reluctant to yield to the hoopla of aging. So if age is truly a matter of feeling and not of years, I won’t be skipping the gym any time soon! Even though my kids and I often get to occupy the gym at the same time, clearly I opt for the workout for the more mature league while they endure a more frantic-paced circuit. The generational gap is absent, though, when it comes to rewarding our efforts of endurance and conditioning.
Coconut Mango Smoothie
8 oz frozen mango
8 oz coconut milk
4 T honey
1 fresh squeezed lime
2 T Activz coconut water powder
6 oz fresh orange juice
8 ice cubes
Throw all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth. Makes 3 servings.
